East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) is comprised of approximately 550 islands, the main ones being Flores, Sumba and West Timor. It is famous for the islands of Komodo and Rinca, home to the fascinating Komodo dragon. The province also contains some of the world’s best diving sites. The administrative capital is Kupang in West Timor, and the Eastern part of Timor island (East Timor) is a separate country.
Flores is one of the best hiking destinations in Indonesia. There are countless volcanoes (including Egon, Poco Ranakah, Lewotobi, Iya) and forest peaks (including Poco Ngandonalu, Mbeliling, Ili Mandiri) to explore. The two Ribus in West Timor, Fatu Timau and Mutis, are fantastic and easy hikes.
