The provincial capital of Central Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tengah) is Palu, one of Indonesia’s driest cities. It is a rugged province full of hiking opportunities for those who enjoy real wilderness and is definitely one of the better options for when the rainy season is in full force in Java and nearby islands. Most of the mountains here are remote and infrequently climbed except on lengthy expeditions of 4 days or more.
The most accessible Ribu is Bulu Nti which is close to Palu. Even closer to Palu is Gunung Gawalise which until recently was often climbed by local student hikers but now has access issues. The easiest trail is almost certainly Nokilalaki.
