Maluku province is comprised of the southern part of the Maluku islands and the capital is Ambon, on Ambon island. There are many flights to Ambon from Jakarta and elsewhere in the archipelago. Alternatively, if you have a few weeks to spare you could probably sail there!

Most of the Ribus are rather obscure, but Binaiya is climbed by many keen hikers despite being an expedition of nearly one week in length. Salahutu on Ambon island is the most accessible mountain here but hikers rarely go to the true peak known as Gunung Simalopu. Banda Api is a legendary volcano in the heart of the remote and historically fascinating islands formerly known by the Western world as the Spice Islands.

As of 2018 there are now flights to Namlea on Buru island, once a prison island home to many inmates including the internationally-renowned author Pramoedya Ananta Toer. The two Ribus on the island are yet to be properly documented, and it is unlikely there are any trails on their higher slopes.
