Bagging It!

Apad Runan has been climbed a few times from the Malaysian side by teams of avid hikers, usually from KL/West Malaysia. The trips are 5-day-long expeditions to the reach the summit border marker from the Bario area. The trail apparently starts near Batu Patong, the southern frontier of the Kelabit Highlands, and a 4WD is required to reach there from Bario. From Batu Patong (990m), the first day of trekking is to Pa Liit waterfall (1,550m) where most groups spend a night before heading south towards the peak which is usually reached on the third day. The second and third nights (before and after summiting) are usually spent camping on an old logging road (1,630m). The fourth night is usually back at Pa Liit.
