Bagging It!
Mount Tapulao is the highest peak in Zambales Province and the Zambales Mountain Range. It’s a well-established hiking destination. The trail spans about 18 km one-way, with elevation gains up to 1,900 m, often completed in 7–9 hours up, and approximately 4–5 hours down. From Dampay (150m) to the south-west, it is possible to drive as far up as 570m. The trail passes via Camp 2 (1,750m), with an optional side trail via Bunker Campsite (1,730m) before the summit where it is also possible to camp. A longer traverse route, starting in Tarlac (Mayantoc) and ending in Zambales, is popular among experienced trekkers for a multi-day ridge experience.

-
- Permits: Before climbing, register at the Barangay Salaza Hall/Eco-Center—barangay-staffed registration is mandatory.
-
- Water sources: Reliable water sources exist in the lower sections of trail.

Origins and Meaning
The local Zambal name “Tapulao” refers to the Sumatran pine trees dominating its upper slopes.
