Bagging It!

Mount Negron (also known as Negron Volcano) is the highest point in Pampanga province. Reddit accounts describe a grueling 34 km round‑trip dayhike, taking 18–23 hours, through mossy forest, tall talahib grass, thorny plants and at least five early river crossings. Expect a remote and undeveloped jump‑off point with no formal signage or facilities, and multiple long river crossings very early in the hike.

Practicalities

    • Getting there: The typical approach starts from Barangay Camias, Porac, Pampanga, with hiking groups often meeting in Mandaluyong or Manila for late-night travel to the jump‑off.
    • Permits: Mandatory registration fee of ~₱850 per person is typically collected at the start, allegedly managed by local Aeta community groups. Guides are hired at a standard rate (~₱1,500 per guide per four hikers). However, these fees are often paid informally (scrap pad receipt, no written policy) and trail maintenance is minimal.
    • Water sources: At least five river crossings near the trail start provide early refill options, but later in the hike the trail passes through talahib grasslands and mossy forest, and no additional water sources are documented near the summit.
