Bagging It!

Mount Mingan is the most prominent peak in Aurora Province and a major mountain of the eastern Sierra Madre. Multiple expedition blogs confirm successful climbs via the remote Gabaldon–Davil‑Davilán route. Treks typically follow a 3‑day / 2‑night itinerary, starting with river crossings from either trailhead and progressing through dense mossy forest to alpine summit ridges.

The Davil‑Davilán route starts in the south (30m) and leads via Station 5 (1,160m), Station 4 (1,440m), Mingan Peak 1 (1,600m), Station 7 (1,580m), Station 8 (1,610m), Salakot Peak (1,740m), Mingan Peak 3 (1,720m), Station 9 (1,740m), Mingan Peak 4 (1,780m), Station 10 Summit Camp (1,770m) prior to the summit.

The Gabaldon route starts in the west (140m) and is the shorter trail. It meets the other trail on the ridge neaar Salakot Peak.

Practicalities

    • Getting there: There are two main jump‑off points: Davil‑Davilán, Dingalan (Aurora) and NEUST campus Eco‑Park, Gabaldon (Nueva Ecija).
    • Permits: Climbs require coordination with local barangay authorities, especially at Davil‑Davilán WA (Aurora) where a Letter of Intent (participant names/information) is emailed in advance and climbers register and sign a waiver upon arrival.
    • Water sources: Frequent stream crossings during early trail stages (up to ~1,500 m).
