Bagging It!

Mount Timpoong is the highest peak of Mount Mambajao on Camiguin Island. The terrain is described as leech‑infested jungle and dense vegetation to the summit with virtually no views. Mount Mambajao peak (1,568m) is around 2 kilometres south of the higher Mount Timpooong, and hiking both in the same outing is very hard due to the vegetation and lack of a clear trail. Therefore the best route is from the north where there is a trailhead at around 700m.

Practicalities

    • Getting there: Most ascents begin from Mambajao, accessible via ferry from Balingoan (Mindanao) or flight from Cebu or Cagayan de Oro, followed by local transportation to trek access points such as the DENR station or Ardent Hot Springs area. An often‑used approach begins at Sitio Itum, via protected area office, and continues through varying forest types to summit gaining roughly 1,100 m elevation in 3–6 hours.
    • Permits: A permit from the DENR office in Mambajao is required and costs approximately ₱200, valid for three days and covering multiple Camiguin peaks including Timpoong and Hibok-Hibok. It is also mandatory to hire a local guide.
    • Water sources: No specific stream access near the Timpoong summit is documented.
