Bagging It!
Mount Arayat is a potentially active stratovolcano located in Pampanga province, Central Luzon. It is an isolated mountain standing prominently amid the vast agricultural plains of Central Luzon. The mountain features a large volcanic crater about 1.2 kilometers in diameter, which is breached on its western and northern rim due to erosion. It has two notable peaks: North Peak (1,026 m) on the northeast side of the crater and Pinnacle Peak (984 m) on the southeast rim. The terrain includes forested slopes and volcanic features such as an andesitic lava dome called White Rock. Mount Arayat is officially designated as Mount Arayat National Park since 1933 and declared a tourist spot in 1997. Climbs usually involve forested and volcanic terrain, and the mountain remains a distinct landmark offering scenic views of the surrounding plains.
The route from the north-west starts near Ayala and the route from the south-east starts near San Juan Bano. There’s a camping area at the southern peak.
