Bagging It!
Hiked from the south-west at the office at the highpoint of the road. The trail appears to lead via a camping area at around 1,400m and 4WDs look to be able to reach this point. It’s then an undulating ridge walk northwards to the highest point which has a small shelter and excellent views. Off-roaders like to come all the way to the top, perhaps on a traverse.
Practicalities
-
- Getting there: Best approached from Doi Soi Malai Tourist Service Center, Mae Tuen Wildlife Sanctuary (at around 1,000m on the road to the south-west of the summit).
-
- Permits: The area falls under Mae Tuen / Doi Soi Malai Wildlife Sanctuary so visitors must register and pay entry at the sanctuary office or forest-park checkpoint.
-
- Water sources: Unknown at present.

Origins and Meaning
The peak name “Doi Soi Malai” translates roughly to “Garland-Gathering Mountain” or “Flower Garland Mountain” (with Soi Malai meaning garland in Thai).
