Bagging It!
Not to be confused with the more famous Doi Phu Ka (1,910m) which gives its name to Thailand’s largest national park about 100km further north-west (south-east of Phou Khe), this Doi Phu Ka is is mre obscure but more topographically prominent. Like the more famous Doi Phu Ka, this one also has a road snaking over it, east of Phrae, and reaching an elevation of nearly 1,400 metres prior to Khunsathan Watershed Research Station. A lower neighbouring peak around 2km to the west, Doi Thong (approximately 1,620m), does appear to be climbed from the road here occasionally and looks very steep in places.

Origins and Meaning
The mountain is probably named after the rare “chomphu phu kha” tree (Bretschneidera sinensis), known for its pink flower clusters.
