Bud Tumantangis, also known as Mount Tumantangis, is the highest peak in Sulu, located on Jolo Island. The mountain holds significant cultural importance to the Tausug people and is sometimes translated as “weeping mountain” or “mountain of tears” because it is beautifully visible from the sea and symbolizes the emotions of Tausug travelers who see it as a nostalgic landmark of their homeland.

The hike to Bud Tumantangis is considered easy to moderate, taking about 3 to 4 hours for the ascent. The trail passes through a populated woodland and then dense tropical rainforest featuring tall trees and mossy upper reaches. The summit is a small plateau offering views of surrounding islands and other prominent peaks such as Bud Dajo and Bud Sinumaan, as well as the nearby Sulu Sea.
