Bagging It!
Gunung Tarub is the name given to the highest peak of Lamongan mountain. It has not erupted since 1898 but used to be one of Java’s most dangerous volcanoes. The closest village is Ranu Klakah which lies to the west of the mountain. Take an ojek (motorcycle taxi) to Mbah Citro where the trail begins. Halfway up the trail is a “watu gede” – large rock – where people often take a rest. It should take about 5 hours to the summit.

I was hoping to climb this mountain today with a local guide but was informed that people would not climb Lamongan due to ‘magic in the area’.
