West Papua province is Indonesia’s most sparsely populated. The provincial capital is Manokwari. A ‘surat jalan’ (permit to travel) is required for travel in this province.
Most of the mountains here are very remote and not often climbed. The most accessible is probably the province’s highest, Arfak (Umsini), which is not far from Manokwari.
